Michiana Male Chorus

In the summer of 1985, John Fitzhenry organized the Michiana Male Chorus from the remnants of several area male choruses that trace their origins back to 1930. These include the Stubaker Male Chorus, the Bendix Male Chorus and the South Bend Elks Male Chorus. The group is open to all men in the community, without audition, and is now self-supporting. Besides its annual Christmas and Spring Concerts, the chorus performs for various church, hospital, nursing home and civic functions. The Michiana Male Chorus has appeared on live TV and radio in the South Bend area.
Giving back to the community is an integral philosophy of the chorus. Each year, the chorus performs several benefit programs for the less fortunate in the community along with donating their services for fund raising activities of other organizations in the South Bend area.
As a member of the Great Lakes Male Chorus Association, the chorus has participated in the Michigan District Big Sings for many years, and this year they will host the 2008 GLMCA Annual Sign at the Morris Center in South Bend.
